Welcome to the KRFL., The Knute Rockne Football League was founded in 2001 by Jim Doyle, who served with distinction as our first commissioner thru mid-2003. The KRFL is a 24-team league that simulates the NFL using the Action PC Football game available from Dave Koch Sports (dksports.com). We have our own rookie draft, our own free agency, and our own salary cap.
Our 24 members have many diverse interests, but they share one common bond, the love of NFL football. For further information or to apply for membership, contact the KRFL commissioner.
The KRFL Super Bowl featured the two Manning brothers as Eli led Crown City into the game while Peyton piloted New York.
New York received the opening kickoff in a rainy Raymond James Stadium and started at their own 24 yard line. New York mixed the pass and run to go down the field to the Crown City 1 but two big run stuffs set up a 4th and 1. New York decided to go for it and Derrick Ward converted the yard to cap a 12 play 76 yard drive and put NY ahead with 7:53 left in the opening quarter. After Crown City went three and out, New York started with excellent field position at their own 48. Peyton Manning completed 4 of 5 passes covering the 52 yards capping the drive with 9 yard hitch to TJ Houshmandzadeh with 4:29 left in the first quarter.
After a Crown City punt New York marched right back down the field and with a 1st and 10 at the 16 looking to put the Crown City in a huge hole, Manning hit Sellers out of the back field and Sellers fumbled inside the 10 to stop the drive. Eli manning wasted no time hitting Coles for 53 yards on a short pass changing field position. Crown City would have a 3rd and 4th and 1 stuffed by the Hitmen at 15 and came away with no points. New York would force another punt and then drive 85 yards in 12 plays with Manning hitting Breaston with a 26 yard slant to put NY up 21-0 with 3:28 left in the half. New York would have another opportunity but Crosby missed a 44 yard field goal right before the half.
The third quarter both teams exchanged punts until late in the quarter when Eli Manning as picked off By Charles Woodson and NY took over on the 30. Crosby would add a 30 yard field goal to make it 24-0 with 13:21 left in the game. After each team punted crown City would drive 55 yards to the NY 25 and Dawson would kick a 42 yard field goal with 5:57 left in the game. From there NY basically ran out the clock to win 24-3.
Game MVP was Payton Manning who hit 19-32 for 277 yards and 2 TD’s. Derrick ward chipped in with 109 rushing yards plus a TD and TJ Houshmandzadeh caught 7 balls for 100 yards and a TD. For Crown City Eli Manning struggled in the rain only hitting 16 of 37 for 182 yards and his favorite target was Coles who had 3 balls for 75 yards.
New York out gained Crown City 423-201 and had a 23-7 first down edge and becomes the first team to record back-to-back championships.

The two Manning brothers will once again face off, this time for the Superbowl.
In the NFC Championship game, Penn St. and Crown City traded scores for much of the game, the difference was the Cougars were putting up touchdowns and the Nittany Lions were putting up field goals as Crown City wins, 38-19. Statistically, both teams put up very similar numbers for yards, first downs, time of possession, and turnovers, but it was the Cougars ability to capitalize on the red zone opportunities that ultimately made the difference. For the Nittany Lions, WR Reggie Wayne and Plaxico Buress combined for over 200 yds and Philip Buchanon scored on a pick-six. For the Cougars, Pierre Thomas scored 2 TDs and averaged an impressive 6.3 YPC while LB Calvin Pace recorded 3 sacks and a forced fumble.
In the AFC Championship, the visiting Hitmen put the hurt on the Commodores, shooting them down, 38-14. Peyton Manning once again threw for over 300 yards and finished with a rating of 138.4 to earn the MVP honors. Manning completed 84% of his passes and threw 4 touchdowns as the Hitmen defense kept Philip Rivers and the high-flying Vancouver offense grounded for most of the day. The 14 points for the Commodores was their second lowest point total of the year as Rivers couldn't quite complete even 50% of hiss tosses.
New York advances to the Superbowl for the third time, having won it last year, blanking NFC champ So Cal, 24-0. Crown City wins it's first NFC Championship and thus advances to the Superbowl for the first time in their history. Both teams met up in week 8 with Crown City winning that match up as Peyton Manning couldn't connect on 4 consecutive passes from first and goal at the six as time ran down.
This year's Superbowl will be held in Raymond James stadium with the winner taking home the Steve Maljian Cup.
In the NFC, Penn St. jumps to an early lead on the back of it's opportunistic defense and never looks back as they defeat Pittsburgh, 28-10. Nitanny Lion's LB Terell Suggs earns game MVP honors for his performance which included 2 sacks and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Crown City holds off So Cal in a shootout, 34-27. Sun QB Kyle Orton threw for 3 TDs as the Sun fell behind 14-0 and could never quite draw even as the Cougars answered each Sun score with one of their own. Eli Manning garnered MVP honors as the Cougars advance and now host Penn St. who defeated the Cougars at home in week 11, 27-7.
In the AFC, top-seeded Vancouver pounder Oreland, 34-6. Oreland, a heavy underdog, gambled early and often failing on two crucial 4th down conversion attempts. The Commodores dominated from the start as their offense played error-free and QB Philip Rivers scored a near perfect rating of 139.2 to earn MVP honors.
Defending champion New York hosted St. Petersburg in the final game, moving on with a convincing 30-9 victory. Turnovers were once again key here as the Hitmen scored a +3 in that department. New York CB Charles Woodson earned MVP honors with his 3 INTs which included a pick-six. The Hitmen travel to Vancouver in an attempt to return to the Superbowl to defend their title.
In the NFC wild card, So Cal's Kyle Orton (115.6 rating) out-duels SW Florida's Matt Schaub (114.5) to garner MVP honors as his Sun team defeats the Storm 27-24. In what was probably the play of the game, Kevin Dockery intercepted a Schaub pass in the red zone with the half winding down and returned it over 80 yards to the Storm's 2 where Orton hit Tory Holt a few plays later to put the Sun up by seven going into the half. The Sun travel to division rival Crown City this week to take on the top-seeded Cougars who are 2-0 vs. the Sun this year. In the other NFC game, Cental division champ Penn St. host Eastern Champ Pittsburgh whom the Nittany Lions defeated in week 6, 16-7.
In the AFC wild card, Bay City fell to the Frank Gore and the Outlaws, 16-21. Gore earned MVP honors with 123 yards rushing and one touchdown, ending with a stellar 6.2 average. In a predominantly defensive struggle, Beaver CB Darelle Revis intercepted a Jake Delhomme pass and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. Delhomme later hit Patrick Crayton on a 35 yard touchdown pass to put the Outlaws back up 14-7. As both defenses held tough, Beaver kicker then hit three field goals to eventually put the Beavers back on top 16-14 late in the third quarter. With the Beavers well positioned at midfield, Frerotte dropped back to pass on a third-and-six, was hit and fumbled, and Oulaw LB Larry Foote scooped it up and rumbled 44 yards for a touchdown in what turned out to be the final score, 21-16. The Outlaws travel to top-seed Vancouver this week whom they've lost to twice this year, albeit the loss in the final week was by just 3 points. In the other AFC playoff game, New York hosts St. Petersburg.
In other league business, I've begun the draft rankings. They won't be complete until both the playoffs and the lottery are complete. Here's where we currently stand:
1. 2-14 Cleveland 1. 3-13 Carolina 1. 4-12 Kutztown 1. 4-12 Salem (these are the four lottery teams, lottery date TBA) 5. 5-11 Canton (L to ALN, 0-6 in common games with Hamden who is 3-3) 6. 5-11 Allentown (2-9 in CG vs. HAM 3-8) 7. 5-11 Hamden 8. 7-9 Green Bay (L to BUR, L to SPO, 2-4 in CG vs ALA 4-2) 9. 7-9 Burbank (W vs. GB, L to SPO, 2-4 in CG vs ALA 2-4, so strength of victory; Burb = .321, ALA = .464) 10. 7-9 Alabama (L to SPO) 11. 7-9 Spokane 12. 8-8 Rolling Green 13. 9-7 Warrington ( 0-2 vs. BEN) 14. 9-7 Bensalem ------------- (playoff teams) 15. 9-7 Bay City (loss in WC round) 16. SW Florida (loss in WC) ---------- (still in playoffs) New York Vancouver Oreland St. Pete Crown City So Cal Pittsburg Penn St.
If you have any questions about this, or find an error, let me know. It's a little tricky and it's not beyond me to make an error here.
Some things coming up soon: Ammendment Process - Jan/Feb Draft Lottery - Jan/Feb Renaming teams - Feb/March Stadium Draft (for those eligible, see rules) - Feb/March
We've concluded the regular season and I would like to thank you all for your participation in playing games head-to-head, and especially to the many of you that stepped up to sub when a sub was needed.
Congratulations to all who made the playoffs, which would include one team that is currently ownerless. We need a volunteer to coach that team in the playoffs. The only requirement is that it needs to be someone who isn't also currently in the playoffs with their own team. Please reply ASAP to this email if you would like to do that.
The first week of playoffs are only for the wild card games. In the NFC, So Cal (11-5) hosts SW Florida (10-6). In the AFC, Bay City (9-7) hosts Oreland (9-7). Season fatigue begins anew with the playoffs. If you wish to contend your seeding, you must do so within 24 hours.
In other matters, there are some threads up on the KRFL forums regarding the past KRFL draft that you might like to participate in. Also, the league constitution will be undergoing a facelift as Mark Haucke and Steve Swanson organize it more clearly. Speaking of the constitution, we will begin the ammendment process in full in a few weeks.
We have a few openings still if you have someone in mind. The start of a new off-season is a great time to join as new owners can shape their team through the two drafts.
Lastly, thanks to Jerry for a great season of processing the weekly game files and waivers.
